Where do I start! I’ve known Ed McShane for about 23 years as a colleague at the County of San Diego and since then as a fellow licensed therapist. He has a great sense of humor, is very caring of his patients and is genuinely a good guy. I would recommend him to my family and friends.

My name is M******* N******* and I am the mother of an 8-year old daughter who has been receiving counseling services by Mr. McShane for over 1-year. I was first referred to Mr. McShane by a former colleague of mine who was also a client of his. She had only good things to say about his counseling techniques and how he had in a short period of time brought peace and perspective to her life.

My daughter was facing a multitude of issues stemming from a physically and sexually abusive relationship with her father whom she was visiting on the weekends. I had previously enrolled her in psychological treatment within her school environment which proved to be unsuccessful. She could not find a level of comfort with this therapist and was uneasy with the direct questioning technique employed by this particular therapist.

Both myself and my daughter were skeptical toward starting over with a new therapist, however; she was exhibiting such pain and fear I felt I had to try and find something that would work for her.

Upon our initial visit, Mr. McShane demonstrated an unprecedented ability to establish quick rapport not only with my daughter, but also with myself. He possesses an uncanny ability to create an atmosphere of ease utilizing humor and empowering the client with the ability to talk about subjects at their own pace. Being a trained professional he is able to elicit essential information without putting pressure on the client. Any hesitancy my daughter initially felt toward the therapy process quickly diminished and I found her looking forward to upcoming sessions with Mr. McShane.

Mr. McShane takes the time to review with the parent techniques that will be helpful in further facilitating the success he has seen the child is capable of, as well as keeping a realistic outlook on potential problems the child may experience in the future.

Mr. Mcshane has also been a key role in adding his professional perspective through the writing of detailed and relevant letters in an effort to aid the appropriate decisions of family court.

I feel very lucky to have had Mr. McShane in mine and my daughter’s lives. I would recommend his services to others and plan to continue seeking his professional advice.

Thank you for taking the time to read this testimonial.

Sincerely,

M******* *. N******* M.S., CCC-SLP

Therapy with excellence, empathy and without the ego.  When my son was filled with anxiety, despair and anger, Ed came up along side him and helped him find his way. He helped him discover his own voice and the self worth to express himself.  My son had been to other therapists–Where walls were built with the others, trust was built with Ed.  Ed met my son where my son needed to be Met.  He heard my son where he needed to be Heard.  He connected with my child and showed him a way out–with the compassion of a fellow traveler and the wisdom of gifted professional. Ed McShane offers what I would call, “Come as you are” therapy.  He Meets You where You are, and helps you discover a Better View.  He is a skilled clinician but a Human Being First.  Therapy that Works without a Halo-

I have to say I owe my life to Ed McShane.  I do not say this lightly.  When I encountered Ed via a random phone call, I was a my lowest point.  I had lost my 11 year old son a year before and I was having a lot of trouble finding a purpose in my life.  I was not working and was in debt.  Ed saw me anyway out of the kindness of his heart.  He helped me sort through my grief and helped me find a new purpose in my life.  Ed is sensitive, compassionate, and has a wonderful sense of humor.  He also helped with my relationship with my husband, counseling with my teen-age daughter.  I consider Ed one of the top most influential people in my life!

I met Ed McShane as i was in the middle of a Huge mid life crisis and a horrible divorce.  I was questioning my own identity.  I was unclear as to why my religious values were so shaky and my self esteem was in the toilet.  I still remember the clarity of thought I had after my very first visit.  Ed gave me an objective point of view from which I could see that I was not going crazy.  Within a few visits I could see my life had a future.  Each time we talked I learned more about topics like co-dependency, religious values and long term relationship dynamics.  I continued to see Ed until my divorce was finalized and my life had settled down.  He continued to provide coping skills and was a deep source of knowledge to help me through the rough spots along my journey.  We still visit from time to time just to catch up.  I do this because I genuinely know he cares.  Today I am a well adjusted middle aged man.  I have regained my financial stability and I am in a great long term relationship.  This is due in a large part to my renewed sense of self confidence and being able to have a bright vision for my future.  Ed I owe you so much thanks for the part you played.

Sincerely,

B*****

To whom it may concern,

I’m a fifty four year old, middle income women who was diagnosed with Multi Myeloma…a rather obscure, non ribbon or walk inducing form of terminal cancer.  My treatment included tandem stem cell transplants, a staff of physicians, social workers and my own personal coordinator.  It was my coordinator who strongly recommended that I also add a therapist to my boatload of care givers.   What I lack in premium bone marrow I more than make up for in great INSURANCE…so therapy it is!

Ed McShane was recommend to me by my daughter…highly.  She suffers from long standing anxiety issues and has seen many counselors over the years and Ed has helped her more than any one else.  Her first therapy session was at age seven and is now twenty seven, from her it was high praise indeed.  Ed has made himself available to her even with her less than stellar insurance, he honestly cares for her well being.  So, Ed’s my guy!

Living with cancer isn’t as bad as it may sound.  With Ed’s insight and guidance I have found ways to adjust, more importantly to me…ways to help my family adjust to the fact that I may not live to be an old woman.   I would be at a great loss without his skill in helping me cope with the challenges of living my life to the fullest, regardless of how long my life may…or may not be.  His kindness is epic and his concern genuine, I’m so grateful to have his considerable knowledge and experience at my disposal.  I really can’t say for whom I owe him the greatest debt, myself..or my daughter.   Sincerely, D******* J*******

I started going to see Ed McShane in 2009; I was a somewhat lost and broken soul not only from what was immediately going on in my life, but from a childhood demon that I carried for 30 plus years. His approach, expertise, wisdom and compassion immediately gave me a sense of safety, comfort and hope that I would get through the hellish layers of circumstances necessary to move forward in a healthy direction and state of mind. What was ironic for me, was uncovering the realization that I really didn’t trust men because of my childhood molestation….and here I was exposing my inner self, my inner childhood and adult fears to a man, Ed McShane, with trust and relief. His constant encouragement and dedication, along with his humaneness, professionalism and knowledge carried me through my fears, emotions, doubts, highs and lows. I can honestly say, he not only saved me from loosing my sanity; he also saved that inner child within my soul from the pain, shame and cries of help I personally could not manage to recognize. I have recommended Mr. McShane to many friends and will continue to do so. He is a man with a wealth of philosophy, insight, observation and theory. I have been to many counselors throughout my life, but none of them were able to get through to me like Ed McShane. I am forever grateful!!

Ed is an outstanding therapist who really listens.  I’ve gone to him for therapy and coaching on an off throughout the past 8 years, even after moving out of state. Ed is loving and accepting; he has a calming voice and a great laugh… they combine with his empathetic soul to cut through all the noise and get to the heart of your issues. I am so grateful for his supportive and direct approach that I have sent several people to work with him.  In fact, I have even had troubled students work with him by phone until they could get to a place where they felt comfortable enough to see a local therapist.  He’s that good.

Four years ago, I wrapped myself in a cocoon with threads of grief, self pity, lack of confidence, and a myriad of other emotions.  After several options placed in front of me, I reached out to our EAP program at work.  I called Ed and left a message.  He returned my call within the hour, a rarity these days to receive a return call so quickly, and I knew from his gentle voice that I would ‘bite the bullet’ and finally get some help.

I loved it!  I was challenged during my sessions and even given ‘homework’ for the next week.  I enjoyed his sense of humor immensely and I still do.  He was the one person in my life at that time that I could/would listen to and was able to pull myself out from under the cloud which was following me.    I will not hesitate ever to call him in the future and even have referred a couple of friends to him.  One more comment – my granddaughter was experiencing abuse from her mother (my EX-daughter-in-law) and Ed immediately suggested my son contact CPS and the police department.  Those were tumultuous times also in our family and once again, he was there to advise and help them with this situation.

Sincerely,

J*** K*******
